An 837 Mega Watt Power Plant, Complete Energy shut down operations due to a vacuum leak on Unit #3 Condenser. A trouble call was sent to C&Systems and their Airborne Ultrasonic technician detected the leak within an hour of his arrival avoiding further loss of venues. (PRWEB) August 22, 2005 -- On August 18, 2005, C&E Systems was contacted by the Complete Energy’s 837 MW Batesville Electric Generating Facility in Batesville,Mississippi. The plant is configured with three combustion turbines firing natural gas coupled with three waste heat boilers and three steam turbines. Each of the three combined cycle units is capable of generating 279 megawatts of electrical power. Due to a loss of vacuum in the condenser for one of the steam turbines, one third of the plant was off-line and in crisis mode. C&E Systems quickly dispatched one of their Airborne Ultrasonic Inspection technical specialists to the site. Within one hour of his arrival at the plant, the technician identified several major vacuum leaks in condenser manway covers. Plant personnel immediately repaired the leaks, and the condenser vacuum was restored 2½ hours after C&E’s arrival at site. Subsequent inspection identified numerous additional vacuum leaks either in manway seals or in failed welds. C&E Systems’ rapid customer response and technical expertise was the determining factor which allowed the plant to resume full electrical production in a short time period. C&E Systems LLC provides Airborne Ultrasonic Testing services for steam traps, vacuum leaks, air leaks, tank floating roof leaks, bearing condition inspection / monitoring, and high voltage electrical equipment inspection.
